The Daily Joy

The Wonder of Human Life

A man's faceI went to the Body Worlds Exhibit at the Franklin Institute today. Seeing the intricacies of the human body was humbling for me. How wonderful that our bodies actually work! The fact that the brain can hold so much, so many memories and emotions, not to mention the nerves and involuntary actions our bodies do so we can have life… everything just blew me away and draws me to praise our loving and almight Creator!

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” - Psalm 139:14.

pass the torch!

I work in an elementary school in North Philadelphia. Many of the kids I encounter come from homes where their parents are high school dropouts, where their older brothers are in jail or in gangs. A lot of my kids think that the only way out is to become a football or basketball player, or a famous rapper.

A few days ago, a student said, “I wanna be just like you when I grow up!” This doesn’t bring me joy because I’m flattered or anything like that. I’m just happy to hear that this kid has goals. He has a vision of where he wants to go. The work I’m doing in this school is so frustrating and fruitless at times, but when he told me that, my heart just melted. I felt, for lack of a better word, fulfilled.

What is the Daily Joy?

I was inspired to create this blog because I just wanted to have a place to share the little things that I experience each day which bring me joy. By “joy”, I mean anything that makes me smile, makes me laugh, cheers me up, inspires me, or brings me peace and hope. Anything that makes my heart sing!

I have a bad habit of seeing the negative more often than the positive, and I’d like to change that. By focusing on the positive things in my life, I’m looking towards an inward change. I hope that this brings others happiness too!
